Rated 1 to 5 stars with 5 being a “must read” and 1 being a “read if you must” book.
****The Divine Conspiracy by Dallas Willard . . . great book – not an easy read . . . amazing that such a sound, evangelical Christian is also a Professor of Philosophy at the University of Southern California.
*****Crazy Love by Francis Chan . . . my top pick for “must read” book for 2009 for GCF (the church where I pastor). This book challenges in every way that we need to be challenged. Chan is the pastor of Cornerstone Church in Simi Valley, California and he is the real deal.
****Unfashionable by Tullian Tjavhidjian . . . this guy is the founding pastor of New City Presbyterian Church which recently merged with Coral Ridge Pres in Ft. Lauderdale when he was called to be the new Senior Pastor to replace D. James Kennedy. He’s 36 years old and is the grandson of Billy Graham. The book is good and issues a great call for believers to live against the world for the world. He also does a good job of explaining what he means by that.
***Resurrecting Excellence by L. Gregory Jones . . . I’ve read this one before, but I’m putting it back up because it is a required text for my first D.Min seminar at Beeson Divinity School this summer which means I’m reading it again.
********** (10 stars because, well, its the Bible) The Gospel of Matthew by God . . . Luke has always been my favorite Gospel, but Jesus’ challenge to the spiritual and religious hypocrites in Matthew and the way Matthew challenges my own heart is quickly making Matthew my favorite Gospel.
